What better way to spend a day than testing your bike for what it is actually designed for high speed corners and racing. On 8th September, 2008, BladeRR and Hotrocks did just that. With BladeRRine as our Crew Chief and Team Photographer, we headed off to the race track at Croix en Ternois, France. Although a 5 hour drive from Ramstein, about 1 ½ hours north of Paris, I can assure you the track is well worth the travel time. We began the day with 4 x 20 minute morning track sessions, designed to give you a feel for the track and show riders the ideal lines to take as well as the proper positioning for hanging off. This coupled with 4 x 20 minute theory lessons prepared us for the wide open afternoon track sessions. The 4 x 20 minute afternoon track sessions proved to be the highlight of the day. The track was now open to goes as fast as you wanted. The feeling of blasting down the back stretch at 220 km/hr, braking hard down to 40 km/hr for the first turn was absolutely amazing. Both BladeRR and I took full advantage of this opportunity and competed against our instructors. We are proud to say to our CC Air Biker Friends, we even managed to pass two of our instructors during the open track session. No Harley drivers here. What was really interesting is when we asked what the Experts were getting for lap times. It turns out; the Pro‘s completed a lap in 1:00 minute even. BladeRR and I were in the 1:05 minute category by the end of the afternoon. I am sure the endless adrenaline rush had a lot to do with it. In all seriousness, there were 3 crashes that day and 4 riders drove off the track into the gravel. Luckily no one was seriously injured. This only goes to show, you have to respect the power of your bike and know your limitations. Riders were quickly sorted into the proper skill level groups as some had overestimated their abilities. What I can say is, if you have never taken your bike on the track, you have no idea what you are missing. What we learned on the track that day can easily be applied to everyday riding. I can tell you, it is truly addictive and both Jan and I cannot wait for the next available track session we are still having problems wiping the smiles off our faces!!!! Special thanks go to BladeRRine for supporting us by taking pictures and videos all day long. The video turned out great. Cheers, Hotrocks & BladeRR

To celebrate our second birthday, we planned a ride and a BBQ / KAMP-OUT WE.

As the weather did not play along during the afternoon, the ride got shortened a bit. We paused at the beautiful view point Remigiusberg where we burned a candle in the well preserved old church to get some better weather for the rest of the day. And guess what, IT HELPED! The rain slowly vanished and by the time the BBQ was hot the clouds opened up.
Everyone enjoyed some good BBQ meat and shrimps (flavored with some burned skin from Glenn) before the 2 candles that we put on conny’s delicious self-made birthday cake could be blown out and the drink fest could begin. DJ’s Viviane and M-Wood tried to get the crowd going, but it did not get further then some dancing on the table and some loud kweeking of some members who by the way need to practice a little more before signing up for the “Bikers Popstar” contest.
Although the opportunity was there to put up a tent, get drunk and crash on the site, most people behaved and chose to sleep in their own comfortable bed and went home on a reasonable time.
Of course we had some exceptions like our Treasurer (with his whole family) and our President and his first lady. The last two even did not bother to put up their tent and chose to sleep in the Grill hut (somebody had to guard all the left over beer! Or is this called dedication?)
Breakfast was delivered early in the morning so we could build up enough courage and strength to clean up the place and enjoy the rest of our Sunday.

Saturday, 20 September, early in the morning, six biker friends gathered at the usual meeting point to start a beautiful tour day in the Black Forest. At 08:15Hr we started our tour with a challenging temperature of 5.5 ˚C. BladeRR guided us on the A62 direction Pirmasens which we left behind to continue our road via Rodalben and Dahn to Bad Bergzabern. Then it was time to warm up with a cup of coffee and some pastry. It seemed to be significantly warmer when we continued our road direction Wissembourg. I wonder if it was the coffee or just the improving outside temperature. From there we continued south passing Hagenau and Strassbourg before we crossed the border again into Germany. We continued south direction Lahr to reach our destination in that area, where Biene‘s parents live. Just five minutes before arrival John tested his off-road skills. Luckily he was able to continue his road after a few minutes enriched with a few scratches and a good dose of adrenaline. A few kilometers further we were welcomed with a pile of nice sandwiches. A big thanks to Biene and here parents for being so well received! After our lunch break Hotrocks lead us direction Achern to stop again in Baden-Baden at the casino. While having a drink outside on a terrace, two good-looking girls approach us asking “Möchten Sie gratis Sekt”. I have to admit that for a second I pulled big eyes as I misunderstood the last word. As the day was shortening we left Baden-Baden direction Kandel. From there we took direction Dahn again cutting off the little edge of France. At Hinterweidenthal we had a last leg stretch before we headed to our home base, the MAXI, in Ramstein to close off the day with a good dinner after 555 Km. Thank you planners and participators for making this another enjoyable riding day.

Besides riding a motorbike, what obviously is our main activity, we also organise events that not always have something in common with riding. One for us important event, which we now organise for the second year with great success, is the big yearly charity BBQ. Last year we managed to raise 1250 Euro for the Reha-Kindergarten in Landstuhl. This year we took it at heart to beat this donation amount. The committed bikers sacrificed, very willingly, lots of spare time in the planning, coordination and execution for this good cause. Sponsors were approach to make the event more attractive with their stands. Life music was ensured by the “Cutting Edge”. This together with some other highlights made this charity BBQ a big success. Including the partner biker-clubs we could welcome around 150 guests at the Belgian Support Unit. This year the Bertha-von-Suttner school in Kaiserslautern was the unanimous elected receiver of our donation because the school has a special program to support challenged children and integrate them into so called “normal” classes. The 3e September we finally visited the school where we could handover the symbolic check with a value of 1400 Euro. The sparkles in the children‘s eyes compensated for the ride with the motorbike on this rainy day. The children demonstrated the already bought equipment and also presented us a nice poem and a dance. After this entertainment we enjoyed coffee and cake that was prepared by the children. After about two hours we left the school, knowing we did the right thing and fully motivated to repeat this charity BBQ again next year.

The weekend of 11-13 July we went to the International Rally (Motorcycle meeting) of Mc Hoeselt in Belgium. This International meeting already goes on for 25 years and depending on the weather, between 600 and 1000 bikers show up during this three day event. A little summary.....

We left Friday at 10.00 o’clock Hrs at the Lemon Lot outside the West Gate direction Belgium. Even though the wetter was not friendly we enjoyed the roads that Jean lead us through. Once entering Belgium the rain gave up and we drove the last Km’s on the highway to dry out. When we arrived in Hoeselt the first bikers already installed their tents on the wet field around the party tent. It was clear that MCHoeselt did a great effort to build up the necessary facilities. A huge tent for the concert and bar, an annex including a French fries stand and a BBQ stand. Also showers and toilets were sufficiently available in a permanent building. We all got our registration done before each of us got installed, some in tents and some in a nearby hotel. After a nice meal and a shower we were ready for the evening party. After absorbing lots of hard music and Belgian beer each of us found the appropriate moment (some later then others) to lookup their sleeping facilities. The morning after we joined up for a collective breakfast. We all thank M-Wood’s mother for here hospitality. We all found the strengths back for the road book ride. MC Hoeselt did a nice job in the preparation of this road book which was also available for navigation systems. We rounded of the nice tour with a good Belgian meal. Some of us were surprised of the available combinations. (Spaghetti Bolognese with grilled chicken) After a little rest we got prepared for party round no2. We received a trophy for 3rd price (most collective Km’s) as International club. More hard music, more beer, topless service and a strip act made sure we had a splendid party night which technically ended early in the morning fo some of us. Sunday morning it took a little longer to get ready for the ride back to Ramstein. BladeRR (Jean) took the lead again and guided us home through some very nice roads of the Eifel region. Before we found our way home we closed of the weekend with a drink at the Maxi in Ramstein. We thank Jean for his initiative and already concluded: next year we’ll go again!
